Development of 3D printed rapid tooling for micro-injection moulding

The use of additive manufacturing techniques in conjunction with injection moulding is becoming increasingly popular, financial and time benefits to coupling the techniques. This study demonstrates a systematic development process 3D printed rapid tooled moulds using stereolithography. A high flexural modulus elongation were found increase likelihood success mould material process. Success defined as surviving being capable producing desired object successfully. Stereolithography was produce quality when diagonal print orientation scaling factor 109.3% employed. presented technique workflow highly suitable for production detailed micro-features. particular interest tooling micro-injection manufacture pharmaceuticals medical devices, where microstructure directly impacts performance products.
